Summer is Over!

We’ve returned from our excellent summer vacation, the kids are back in school, and it’s looking like a busy 2014-2015 musical theater season for me.  I’ll be playing with the Tabard Theatre Company (a new company for me) and then return engagements with West Valley Light Opera, South Bay Musical Theatre and Peninsula Youth Theatre.

I’m also continuing my Jazz Guitar and Music Production studies at Berklee Online.

Yes, indeed, summer is over.  Time to get back to work!

Put Away Your Swords!

Don’t you know that it’s all over?
It was nice but now it’s gone.

Yes, our run of Jesus Christ Superstar has come to an end, but what a great show!

Thanks again to Jean for inviting me into the pit and to Sam for suggesting she do so.  I enjoyed being part of a rocking rhythm section with Sam, Brad, Walt, and Richard and playing with the amazing orchestra that Jean put together.

I’m not sure Jean’s strategy of jamming us all into a tiny space to keep us all in time worked (kidding!) but it was a great bonding experience.  I swear that space got smaller each night!

Thanks to the sound crew for being patient while I worked out my rig and for making the whole production sound great in the house.

Until next time!

When do we arrive in… Saratoga?

WVLO’s production of the rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar opens this weekend!

Join us for the story of the greatest drama of all time, the last seven days in the life of Jesus of Nazareth. The amazing score includes I Don’t Know How To Love Him, Hosanna, Everything’s Alright and the title song Jesus Christ Superstar.

The show runs through April 5th at the Saratoga Civic Center (13777 Fruitvale Ave. Saratoga).

What’s The Buzz?

I’m happy to announce that I’ll be playing guitar for West Valley Light Opera’s spring production of Jesus Christ Superstar.  This musical has an awesome score and the guitar part is fun and challenging!

If you are looking for a fresh take on this classic soundtrack, continue reading for reviews of recordings I discovered while preparing for the show.  I’ll post my notes on the score and info on my guitar rig once I get it dialed in.

Paciencia y Fe!

As we head into the final weekend of In The Heights, I wanted to thank our Musical Director, Matt for putting together a great orchestra and for his patience and faith in this newcomer to his pit.  Matt hired me sight unseen and didn’t panic when I confessed that, no, I hadn’t known all those Latin rhythms when he hired me.

Thanks to Tony, our percussionist, who knows his stuff and had some great suggestions along the way, and to the rest of our top-notch orchestra.  It’s been a blast and I’m looking forward to a great closing weekend!

P.S. : If you’ve landed this part and are wondering what to do when you see figures like the one below, here’s a decoder ring.
